Dr. Wang’s research group invites applicants for one PhD position in geotechnical engineering for Spring & Fall 2027. Highly motivated individuals with a strong background in numerical modeling, especially discrete element method or material point method, machine learning and probabilistic methods, and non-invasive sensing methods in geotechnical engineering, adequate English proficiency, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team are encouraged to apply.

Required qualifications

Applicants must have a B.S. degree and a master degree in one of the following areas:

  • Civil engineering
  • Geotechnical engineering
  • GIS or remote sensing

Ideal candidate background

Ideal candidates should have a strong background in one or more of the following areas:

  • Geotechnical modeling and simulation, including DEM or MPM
  • Machine learning and probabilistic methods
  • InSAR and remote sensing methods
